Doors and interiors

Houses, Pokémon Centers, gyms and rooms you can walk into.

A city has an Outside map and up to 40 interiors. They're listed under Maps at the top of the side panel. Click one to edit it.

Add an interior

There are two ways:

  • From a door: select the Doors layer (7), click the door of a building, and in Leads to pick one of the + New templates. The door is linked right away.
  • From the Maps list: press + Map and pick an interior template, then add a door to it.

Routes and other towns are joined at their edges instead of through doors: see Routes and the region.

The templates are Pokémon Emerald's real rooms, with their tiles, furniture and collision, the exit mats as doors, and the people who work there:

TemplateWhat you get
Pokémon CenterThe counter and a Nurse who heals, talked to across the counter.
Poké MartThe shelves, and a clerk behind the counter.
House, House (bigger), House (with plants)Emerald's houses.
Player's house (with upstairs)Brendan's house with Mom, and the bedroom upstairs, joined by the stairs.
Pokémon LabProfessor Birch's lab, with the Professor.
Trainer's SchoolRustboro's school.
Day CareThe Day Care, with the Day Care Lady.
Bike shopMauville's bike shop.
Gym (Rustboro), Dark gym (Dewford)The gym and its leader (Roxanne or Brawly), with a team you can change.
Cave (Granite Cave)A cave floor.
Woods (Petalburg Woods)A forest with exits at both ends.
Empty roomA 14 × 10 stone floor with walls, an exit at the bottom and nobody inside.

The rooms add the Emerald tilesets they're made of to the city, so you can keep painting them with the same tiles. Edit them like any other map: move the furniture, add people, change the size in City settings while the interior is open.

Rename an interior in the Maps list. The trash button deletes it, along with every door leading to it.

Doors

A door is a tile that moves the player to another map when they step on it.

  • Click a tile on the Doors layer to add a door, then pick where it leads to.
  • Click an existing door to change it. Open jumps to its destination, Remove door deletes it.
  • Doors inside an interior can lead Outside or to another interior, so you can chain rooms together, like a two-floor house.

Where the player arrives

The player arrives one tile away from the door that leads back where they came from. So when a house's exit door leads outside, and the house's outside door leads into the house, walking in and out just works.

If the destination has no door back, the player arrives at its spawn point.

One door per interior

If several doors outside lead into the same interior, the player always comes out of the first one. Give each building its own interior.

What interiors share

Interiors have their own tiles, collisions, people, doors, spawn point and story gates. They share the city's story, wild Pokémon zones, tilesets and music.

Ideas

  • A cave: an empty room with a dark floor, rocks on the Objects layer and a cave encounter zone.
  • A two-floor house: two interiors with a staircase door between them.
  • A locked gym: story gates on the tile in front of the gym door outside.
  • A secret base: a door hidden behind trees that leads to a room with a reward giver.
